Oxy Addiction and related Diseases

OxyContin is a morphine type of a drug and falls in the narcotic analgesics class. The drug is a common pain killer used in long term pain conditions and can be available only on a physician’s prescription. But due to the rush this drug gives when used without coating, it has gradually become a popular recreational drug. It is highly addictive and its abuse can lead to chronic addiction. The person using it over a period of time shows some fatal symptoms and suffers from health related problems. The addiction needs proper health care facilities at any rehab centre.

The physical symptoms related to Oxy abuse are vomiting, insomnia, sleep disorders and decreased appetite. There are a number of psychological diseases that are associated with the addiction such as, depression, suicidal tendencies, and loss of focus and drive to live and a feeling of apathy and hopelessness. The addicts find it tough to take a decision and feel confused. Such persons feel fatigued and weak and can not carry out normal routine activities. They experience muscle and bone pain and severe headaches accompanied by irritably and restlessness. The condition is fatal and therefore requires good rehab attention.

The addict may even show small pupils, decreased respiratory rate, stomach cramp, diarrhea, muscle twitching, nausea and dizziness. General weakness, sweating and body aches are a common sight with the addicts. In extreme cases the person can also show signs of Seizures and coma. The treatment of the addiction starts by diagnosing the signs and symptoms of the Oxy abuse. An early detection can result into early detox and for that the U.S government has established various rehabilitation centers to ensure that the addict gets rid of the fatal habit, does not relapse and lead a drug free life.
