What Makes Oxy Addictive?

Oxycontin, or oxy is a schedule II narcotic which is sold only under prescription to be used as a painkiller. But because of its opiate nature and heroin like properties, people abuses this drug to get a ‘high’ or feel euphoric.

When one abuses oxy, without the doctor’s instruction, for recreational purposes; he has high chances of becoming addicted to it. When one starts abusing oxy, his body becomes tolerant to the drug pretty soon. Naturally he needs more amount of oxy to achieve the same effects as time progress.
Because of these larger dosages of the drug, the brain becomes dependent on it.  The brain just cannot function properly without the presence of this drug in one’s physiological system. And he needs to take oxy more frequently to keep him going.

Without oxy, his brain will fail to produce its natural endorphins, the chemicals which are responsible for the feeling of happiness. As a result one feels extremely depressed in absence of oxy. The brain slowly loses its ability to perform well and nervous system dysfunction takes place. Without this painkiller, one experience extreme pains, that might not even exist physically.

Other withdrawal symptoms like diarrhea, nausea, extreme sweating and other sickness soon followed. The brain becomes entirely dependent on oxy and without oxy it just stops functioning.  As a result one steal money, cheat friends just to be able to buy the drug. Because of the physiological and psychological dependency, they cannot think of anything but oxy.

Oxycontin addicts find it really hard to deal with the addiction. Some even go as much as committing suicide to escape the depressing withdrawal symptoms. But one can join a rehab center specializing in treatment of oxy addiction. There are many such rehab centers in California, Texas, Pennsylvania and other states.
